Even an experienced dentist can choose a crown that is not quite right. The crown itself is not always the reason. 🦷
Three mistakes that can change the result of treatment:
1️⃣ Choosing the material before the clinical task.
Decide the indications and the features of the tooth first. Then choose the restoration and the material.
2️⃣ Looking only at the size.
The right size matters, but so do preparation, seating, contacts, occlusion, and cementation.
3️⃣ Ignoring what is particular about this child.
Age, behavior, hygiene, caries activity, and how long the tooth has left before it is shed can all change the choice.
A crown is not chosen for a tooth in the abstract. It is chosen for a particular child and a particular clinical situation.

🩷 The biopolymer crown: where does it belong in pediatric dentistry?
We are not going to argue that a biopolymer crown is “better than everything else.” That approach does not work in clinic.
Every material has its own indications, features, and limits.
When you choose a biopolymer crown, the material is only part of the picture:
🔹 indications and limits
🔹 size and tooth preparation
🔹 seating and cementation
🔹 the child in front of you
🔹 advice after treatment
Saying “it is a modern material” does not decide anything by itself.
The dentist needs to know why this restoration fits this patient, and what will make it work.
So we will look at biopolymer crowns from the dentist’s side:
